Vasiluzzo is the Sicilian pronunciation for Basiluzzo, the most impressive islet in front of Panarea. But to call it an islet is not fair; Basiluzzo (from the Greek Basileus, the king) is actually an island, royal but uninhabited. But this doesn’t mean that it has no history: the remains of an ancient Roman villa are still visible, probably used as a seasonal residence by some rich Roman who appreciated the beauty of the Aeolian islands. Basiluzzo, along with the other smaller islands of Panarea, was declared an integral Natural Reserve
